Shout-Out to Mrs. Weiner’s Class

February 22, 2008

pink-backpack.jpgA big HEY! and a high five to the sixth graders of Gaspar de Portola Middle School. Thanks so much for a fun morning. You have the most fantastic ideas for stories, and that humdinger you told about Mrs. Weiner’s accidental lock-out was hilarious. I’m glad you were all able to escape the classroom; thank goodness for janitors who know how to pry out window screens. Mine that story for all it’s worth.

Before I left this morning I promised to post links to two of my blog posts:
“Odd” Jobs (or, I Was a Pro Video Game Player)
The Presidents and the Potty

And here are those books we talked about:
Jean Ferris’s Once Upon a Marigold, Love Among the Walnuts, and Much Ado About Grubstake
Christopher Paolini’s Eragon (a series, also a movie)
Gary Soto’s Baseball in April and Other Stories

Thanks again for a great time. Don’t forget to drop me a line now and then to tell me how your stories are coming along, especially ones about boys who carry polka-dotted pink backpacks. My, what small details like that can lead to…

Hi Im the really talkative person sitting on your right. I love to write, unlike you my ~fourth~ grade teacher inspired me in writing. I use to be called the palm tree freak because I wrote a persuasive essay on saving the palm trees in Indio. In writing unlike talking youre not pressured to say one word after another quickly, you have time to make something random or something weird and funny. By the end of the year I was also called rock lady because I wanted to write a whole narrative on rocks(it could happen) a regular day rock was really 2000 years old wich connected an ordinary californian girl to this Inca teenager who traveled? I think writing is fascinating

Thanks for coming to our class. I like writing funny stories. When I was in 5th grade I wrote a book called the “Adventures of Mr.Goodbar”. It was about a war between meatballs. I’m probably going to write a sequel. In fourth grade I wrote “The Leperchauns Gold”. Believe it or not it was about a guy trying to steal a leperchauns gold. And thats about all i can think to say at the moment. Speaking of writers block, you should write a segment of your blog about writers block.

Also, my book about Mr. Goodbar was the longest one in my class. OIne thing I try to do in all my stories is include my cat, Mr.Kitten. Well he is actually my brothers cat. Curse this writers block!!!
