Hunger Mountain

May 16, 2011

vcfa-logoI’m honored to have an article featured in the summer 2011 issue of HUNGER MOUNTAIN, the Vermont College of Fine Arts’ wonderful journal of the arts. In “Where the Teens Are: 5 Ways to Freshen Up YA Fiction’s Favorite Settings,” I offer writers tips for making familiar teen fiction settings like school and the main character’s room feel provocative instead of inevitable. Click on over to Hunger Mountain for more.

Thanks, Deborah. These are great tips. I love the running gag touch. Reminds me of George Bailey in It’s a Wonderful Life” and how perturbed he got every time he touched the knob at the bottom of the stair banister and it would come loose. Those kind of details enrich a story.
